How To
Get Our Help
The first thing we need to do is evaluate your situation and see if it falls within the areas we are able to provide assistance. To make this process as quick and easy for you (and us) as possible, we've created several forms here on the website which give us the information we need to see to quickly review your case. (Click Here to Go Straight to Our Listing of On-Line Inquiry Forms) Check the hyperlinks below for the particular form that best fits your problem and then, when you get the form, fill it out as completely as possible. When it is transmitted to us, you will receive an "auto reply" that we have received the form and should be getting back to you within a few days. Thanks for your patience while we take the time to personally review your information.
You may wonder what we do with that information, especially since some of it is quite personal (See Our Privacy Policy) in nature. Well, first we review the form (which comes to us in the form of an email) to see if it is a case which, at first look, is of the type with which we get involved. If you have an insurance exclusion we are pretty sure we can't help with or are seeking a type of surgery we don't work with (see our FAQ for more on those issues), we'll email you and explain that we can't or won't accept a fee from you and why.
The personal information you provide helps us evaluate whether we believe we can assist you in obtaining an insurance approval. That is why we need things of a personal nature such as your height and weight, co-morbid conditions, the insurer, the doctors, etc. All of that factors in to our evaluation. We try very, very hard to only accept cases where we feel we can make a difference. You work hard for your money and you want to have some comfort knowing that it isn't being "wasted" on a case that we simply are unable to turn around. We obviously cannot guarantee that a particular outcome in any case will be positive, so just because we accept the case doesn't mean you're automatically going to obtain a surgical approval, but we don't take cases where our experience tends to show your money would be better spent elsewhere.
Even if WE don't take your case, we NEVER tell someone not to appeal, or "don't bother" or anything like that. We truly believe that any surgical denial for a person who meets medical criteria should be appealed if a payer denies access. What we don't think is right is taking a fee where we are unlikely to make a difference in how that payer responds at the time of the appeal.
If we think we can assist you with a bariatric surgery denial, we'll use the contact information you provide on this form to either snail mail, fax, or email you a detailed packet of information which explains our various fee options, our levels of service and what we need from you to proceed quickly. After you get that packet of information, the ball is in your court to make the decision whether or not you want to retain our services.
Understandably, you may want to be assured that there are real live human beings that work at the Obesity Law & Advocacy Center. You are always free to call our office. Although our phone volume is substantial, we work very hard to return calls as promptly as possible. However, we have generally found that providing us the information we seek on the forms we provide give the fastest and most comprehensive response.
We use PDF files;
also called Portable Document Format files. You'll need Adobe Reader to view PDF files,
regardless of whether your computer is a PC or a Mac. If you don't have Adobe Reader installed yet, you can get it now, and it's
free. Just click on the link below.
I just got a call from my doctors office saying they received a letter from Fedex saying I can have the surgery. I have not received the letter yet but I am making plans for a surgery date and hope the letter comes today. I could just run down there and HUG you, I am so happy and grateful for what you have done for me....you will never know.
More later ..I have to go dancing in the streets now.
